Alex Tait
Alex Tait is formerly an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at Queen's University, Kingston, ON, Canada. He was a NRC postdoctoral fellow in the Quantum Nanophotonics and Faint Photonics Group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Boulder, CO, USA. He received his PhD in the Lightwave Communications Research Laboratory, Department of Electrical Engineering, Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, USA. His research interests include silicon photonics, neuromorphic engineering, and superconducting optoelectronics. He is the recipient of the Award for Excellence from the Princeton School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Best Student Paper Award from the 2016 IEEE Summer Topicals Meeting Series, and the Class of 1883 Writing Prize from the Princeton Department of English.

Graduate Students

PhD: Marcus Tamura
Marcus Tamura is a PhD student and is supervised by Prof. Alex Tait and Prof. Bhavin Shastri. His research interests include spiking neuromorphic systems and cryo-compatible photonics. He did his Master's degree with Prof. Shastri in the Department of Physics, Engineering Physics and Astronomy at Queen's University. He has a BSc in Engineering Physics (nanotechnology and co-op option) with a minor in mathematics, from the University of Alberta. He loves boardgames and videogames.

MASc: Prosper D. Allo
Pursuing a PhD with interests in building neuromorphic and quantum computing at cryogenic temperatures and designing and packaging of electro-optic systems. In his MASc at Queens, he demonstrated silicon color centers as potential light sources in foundry devices. His BSc was in Physics with a specialization in Electronics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. He's generally interested in building novel and innovative unconventional computing systems at scale. He enjoys spending time with family and loved ones, listening to music, drawing, skating and soccer. Hopes to lead an impactful life and inspire people from similar socioeconomic backgrounds to reach for that which is seemingly beyond.

MASc: Mirabel Mensah
Mirabel is a MASc student under the supervision of Prof Alex Tait. She holds a BSc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. Mirabel's research interests focus on silicon photonics and neuromorphic engineering, and she is committed to advancing knowledge in this field. Beyond her academic pursuits, Mirabel enjoys exploring new places, playing tennis, and actively contributes to her community through charity work.
